Launched in 1921 and pictured at the Evans, Coleman & Evans Dock, the three-masted Auxiliary Schooner Lady Kindersley was purpose-built to withstand the terrific pressure of Arctic ice floes.
In 1924, after completing two successful voyages for the HBC, the 715-ton wooden schooner was abandoned in the ice pack off the coast of Alaska.
The crew was rescued but a million-dollar cargo of fox pelts was lost.
